What Is Schema Markup?
Schema markup (also called structured data) is a small piece of code that describes your page in a language search engines understand. Instead of guessing that "+353 71 123 4567" is a phone number or that "Mon–Fri 9–5" are opening hours, Google, Bing and AI assistants can read those facts directly. The vocabulary comes from Schema.org, and the format Google recommends is JSON-LD, which is exactly what this generator creates.
Our free tool builds valid JSON-LD for the most useful schema types. Fill in the form, watch the code update live, copy it and add it to your site. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to our servers.
Why Schema Markup Matters for SEO and AI Search
- Rich results: eligible pages can show extra details in Google such as product prices, event dates, breadcrumbs and article information, which can lift click-through rates.
- Local SEO: LocalBusiness schema confirms your name, address, phone number and opening hours, supporting the information in your Google Business Profile.
- AI visibility: AI assistants and Google AI Overviews rely on clear, consistent facts about businesses. Structured data makes your details easier to understand and cite. Check how AI sees you with our AI Visibility Checker.
- Knowledge panels: Organization and Person schema with

How to Add Schema Markup to Your Website
WordPress
Use a header and footer code plugin (such as WPCode) to add the code to a specific page, or paste it into an HTML widget in Elementor on that page. If you use an SEO plugin such as All in One SEO, Yoast or Rank Math, check its schema settings first so you do not create duplicate markup.
Other websites
Paste the code inside the <head> or anywhere in the <body> of the page it describes. Shopify, Wix, Squarespace and Webflow all allow custom code on a page or site level.
Test before and after publishing
Paste your code into the Google Rich Results Test to check eligibility, and the Schema.org Validator to check syntax. After publishing, monitor the Enhancements reports in Google Search Console.
Common Schema Markup Mistakes
- Different details from your Google Business Profile. Keep your business name, address and phone number identical everywhere.
- Duplicate schema. Two plugins outputting LocalBusiness schema for the same page sends mixed signals.
- Self-written reviews. Google does not show review stars for reviews a business writes about itself on its own site.
- Wrong page. Product schema belongs on the product page, not the category page or homepage.
- Out-of-date information. Update prices, opening hours and event dates whenever they change.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is schema markup?
Schema markup is structured data code, based on the Schema.org vocabulary, that describes the content of a page to search engines. It tells them exactly what your business name, address, products, events or articles are.
Is JSON-LD better than Microdata?
Google recommends JSON-LD because it sits in a single block of code and does not need to be mixed into your HTML. It is easier to add, update and test, which is why this generator uses JSON-LD only.
Will schema markup improve my rankings?
Schema is not a direct ranking factor, but it helps search engines understand your pages and can make them eligible for rich results, which can improve click-through rates. It also supports local SEO and visibility in AI search.
Does FAQ schema still show in Google?
Since 2023, Google only shows FAQ rich results for a small number of well-known government and health websites. FAQ schema is still valid and helps search engines and AI tools understand your questions and answers, but most sites should not expect FAQ dropdowns in results.
Where do I put the schema code?
Add it to the page it describes, either in the head section or the body. On WordPress, use a code snippet plugin, your SEO plugin's schema settings or an Elementor HTML widget.
Can I use more than one schema type on a page?
Yes. For example, a service page can have Service, BreadcrumbList and FAQPage schema. Generate each one separately and add all of the code blocks to the page.
How do I test my schema markup?
Use the Google Rich Results Test to see if your page is eligible for rich results, and the Schema.org Validator to check the code for errors. Both links are next to the generated code.
Is this schema markup generator free?
Yes. It is completely free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser, so the information you enter is never stored.
